Eye Makeup Remover. Something we all need, right? Or do you simply wash your face at night and leave it on so you look like a raccoon in the morning? Or worse yet, do you leave your makeup on all night? If you're young, your skin will age fast doing this. One of the most important things you can do is to clean your face every single night. Your skin renews itself while you sleep. It can't do it as efficiently as it should when your pores are all clogged up with war paint. And did you know that not ALL facial cleansers will remove makeup? Here's one that does. . . and for a price that can't be beat.
Avon's Moisture Effective Eye Makeup Remover Lotion is one of the best I've tried. Prior to this, I was a fan of Lancome's Bi-Facil Eye Makeup Remover. Truth be told, I'm still a fan. In my NOT so humble opinion, the Lancome Bi-Facil is THE BEST eye makeup remover out there, bar none. Get it at your neighborhood Lancome counter or at http://www.lancome.com . You get a 4.2oz. bottle for $26.
Back to Avon. It's not in a fancy bottle like the Lancome, nor is it a pretty blue color like the Lancome. However, you get a 2 fluid ounce bottle for. . . well, right now, 99 cents!!! Am I joking? No, I'm not. The regular price is only $4 when it's not on sale. It's creamy, safe and effective. I've used it on my young teen daughter, too, who is extremely sensitive and it doesn't hurt her eyes.
Let's do the math. 4oz. of the Lancome = $26. 4oz. of the Avon = $8 regular price. Right now, you can get 4oz. of the Avon for $1.98. Can we spell NO-BRAINER, boys and girls?

Quick Tip For Ya
Before I get to another great Avon product, I figured I would give you a quick makeup tip. If you go back to the beginning of this blog, you will see a method for narrowing your chubby cheeks. . . well, MY chubby cheeks. LOL Now I'm going to give you a tip on how to narrow your nose. Mine seems to be spreading with age. It seems to do that in my dad's family and since I look like them, I guess I'm in for it. OYE!!! Never fear, though. My trusty pots of war paint and handy-dandy brushes will not let me (us) down!
First off, make sure your nose is really powdered or at least matches your face. Remember, it's "like substance to like substance." If you use powder blush, you need to have a layer of face powder between your LIQUID or CREAM foundation and that blush or it will drag and look splotchy. If you don't use powder, you need to use a liquid or cream blush over the same formula foundation. I always use powder over my foundation, so we will assume that scenario, K?
Take a medium blusher brush and lightly dip it in your favorite bronzer. Now sweep it down the side of your nose, especially covering the bulbous portion on each side. Next take a white highlighting powder. . . you can use a white or pale ivory eye shadow if that's what you have. Color is color, provided it's the same formulation. Take an eyeshadow brush and put a white or light-colored stripe right down the center top of your nose, bridge to end. Now take your powder brush or a separate blending brush and blend, blend, blend. Add a touch of your face powder if you have to. You should see no lines of demarcation anywhere. VOILA! A narrower-looking nose!
The same principle applies to any part of your face you may want to "alter." Dark colors recede; light colors come forward. If your nose is too long, put a spot of blusher on the very end of it. And don't forget. . . BLEND, BLEND, BLEND!!! Those are my favorite words. No lines or borders. You should NOT be able to see which color ends where. If you can. . . BLEND, BLEND, BLEND some more!!!
Ready for your closeup? GOOD! Now stay tuned for another Avon product review coming up shortly.

Something NEW from Avon!

I really thought long and hard about what I would do for the first Avon product review. I was going to do one of the classic fragrances or something like their liquid deodorant that's been around for eons and eons. Then I tried one of my demos, something new and different. I was/am so impressed that I'm going to lead off with it!
The product I'm talking about is Spectra Lash Mascara. I can hear some of you saying, "Come on, Old Paint, mascara is mascara." Well, it is in that mascara is used to color your lashes, but that's where most of the similarities end. Avon has great basic mascara in its Wash-Off Waterproof formula, full price $6.50, goes on sale usually for $4.99 or less. My current fave in the Avon mascara department, UNTIL NOW, has been the Daring Curves Mascara, full price $7.50, usually on sale for $5.99 or less. I still like it, but I LUV LUV LUV Spectra Lash!
Spectra Lash has a dial that lets you dial your personal lash coverage. They claim that on No. 3 (highest coverage), your lashes will be eight times thicker than they are without this mascara. I'm not so sure it's that much, but there's a big difference. I keep mine at No. 2 and I love it. It goes on smooth, doesn't seem to clump and it looks fabulous! I don't have particularly great eyelashes either, but they DO look great coated in Spectra Lash. I am also highly allergic and there is no burning or itching with Spectra Lash. (And, yes, you Doubting Thomasinas, I've worn it more than once. :)
When I first saw it in the Demo book, I thought that dial was sort of gimmicky. I still think that, maybe just a little. But all gimmicks aside, this formula is, I feel, Avon's best to date for a really superb mascara at a fantastic price! (Regularly sells for $9.50, now on sale for $5.99!) Oh, and did I mention it comes in FOUR colors? You can get the standard black and brown or the combo color black/brown or navy. Go get yours now at: http://www.youravon.com/cives . It will come right up in the big center box on the first page. Look for Reese Witherspoon and click away! Remember to use code FSANY for FR*EE shipping.

First Things First. . .
Before I start expounding upon all those wonderful Avon goodies, I want to give you a few tips on how to shop Avon's amazing web site! When you go to my site (http://www.youravon.com/cives), click on "Shop Now" across the top menu. Now you have a choice to make.
You can shop just like any other online store by clicking on the black bar menu to select categories, such as Anew (Avon's hot hot hot anti-aging line!) or Mark (for the young and young at heart). You can shop using the next menu down and click on a product type, such as fragrance, makeup or fashion (check out the shoes. . . YOWZA!!!)
Now if you're pining for a good 'ole Avon brochure, never fear! You can always shop the brochure by clicking on "online brochure" which is located in the second section down the left-hand side menu. The nifty thing about shopping this way is that ALL the current brochures come up. You can shop from the main campaign brochure, as well as from a number of specialty and super sale brochures. You just select the brochure you want to read first and click through it, page by page.
When you see an item you're interested in, simply click on it and you will be taken to its web page in the main Avon site. You can order it here or go back to browsing at any time by clicking "return to brochure" which is on every item's page.
Remember, shopping with Avon is easy, convenient and FAST. You will receive your order on your doorstep in 2-4 days, depending on the day you order. Shipping is FR*EE with code FSANY.
HAPPY AVON SHOPPING!!! Tomorrow, I will start highlighting some of the products for you. You are going to be blown away by the quality versus the price. . . PROMISE!

Hey. . . whaddya mean it's March 2009???
Where'd 2008 go? Boy, have I been in a tailspin. . . or what? All kidding aside, it's been a rough couple of months and I sincerely apologize for leaving you guys in the lurch when it comes to great and not so great war paint.
Things have changed a little bit since I last wrote. I no longer work in the department store selling very high-priced makeup. That's both good and bad. I enjoyed it. After much thought, I decided to pick up where I left off with one of America's icons of makeup and skin care. DING DONG, Avon calling! I sold Avon about 25 years ago and have been a regular purchaser all through the ensuing years. My, my, my have things changed! Have you seen a current Avon brochure lately? If not, find one. You will be amazed at the variety of products available! And the makeup and skin care? Top notch for the amazingly low price points they offer. This is of vital importance in today's economy, getting the absolute MOST bang for cosmetics buck.
So in that light, I will be tweaking this blog a little bit. From now on, I will be telling you all about the wonderful array of Avon products you can purchase and have delivered right to your door in about 3 days. No joking! Just go to http://www.youravon.com/cives and place your order. Use Code FSANY for FR*EE shipping of any size order! But if you're not sure what to buy, stay tuned right here. I will be touting the many benefits of Avon products. However, it will not be all one-sided. If I find something just as good or better at the drug store or in another line AND more economical, I will tell you that, too.
Oh. . . one last thing. If you have a local Avon lady, PLEASE give her your business! She is an independent business owner who is working hard to achieve her dreams through Avon. She'd love to hear from you! If you don't have or can't find your own rep, though, please feel free to visit my web site: http://www.youravon.com/cives . And don't forget to use code FSANY for FR*EE shipping on any size order!

Presto Change-O!!!
Okay. You know Yours Truly is a big sucker for {{{unique}}} products (read that "gimmicks," boys and girls). I've been eyeballing this Revlon Foundation championed by the lovely Jessica Alba that starts out white and changes to your exact skin color. "Yeah, sure it does, Jessica. Of course I believe you." The ever-practical me just knew it couldn't be so. However, finding myself in CVS the other day. . . well, there she was, Jessica, her beautiful countenance just begging me to prove her wrong. So of course I HAD to buy some. (That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!!!)
Now it is NOT all one color. There are, I believe, five color ranges. I chose #210 light. (I have paled out to almost ghost white this winter. Not sure why.)
Got it home, ripped it out of the blister pack and squirted some on my hand. My first thought was Ewwwwwwwwwwwww!!! It looks like Breyers Vanilla Ice Cream, you know, the stuff that's off white with black flecks of vanilla beans. My skin color? Hardy Har Har. So I rubbed a little in and ya know what? It turned into a nice very pale beige color. My, my, my. I then tried it on my face. Did the same thing. I wouldn't say it's my exact color, but it's dang close. It gives you a nice, dewy look. It's very soft with pretty good coverage. I wouldn't have believed it but, hey, would Jessia Alba lie? I think not.
One point here. For drugstore makeup, it's NOT cheap. This tiny tube of Revlon Beyond Natural Skin Matching Makeup (Says 1fl. oz. but sure doesn't look like it) was $12.99 in CVS. For that price, you can start thinking about foundation in the department stores. However, if you're in CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreens, et cetera, and you want some unique foundation, this may just fit the bill. It may be a gimmick, but it does what it says.

An Oldie But A Goodie

No, I'm not talking about me, although I certainly fit the bill. . .
I'm talking about Cover Girl Clean Makeup. According to Wikipedia, it has been around since 1958, formerly known as Noxzema Medicated Makeup. It came into national prominence in the ad campaign of 1976 with Christie Brinkley's face and turned into the longest running cosmetic contract in history between Ms. Brinkley and the now-named Noxell Corporation. Back in "the day," every girl had a dark blue jar of Noxzema on her dresser. It did it all. Where did you keep yours?
I have to admit to being a bit surprised that it was still around in its original form, but it is. . . and, come to find out, with darn good reason. I just got some from a friend so I gave it a whirl. Yeah, it still smells like Noxzema but other than that, all I can say is. . . WOW! This stuff is good. I tried the Classic Ivory in both the Clean Makeup Liquid Foundation and the Clean Pressed Powder in the brown case. The smell dissipates quickly and you are left with good coverage and a nice, soft matte look. I wore it to work and it lasted all day. It still looks good after 12+ hours. I admit to being mightily impressed, especially when I found out the price. Would you believe $5.34 at http://www.drugstore.com ? No, I'm not joking. The pressed powder is the same price. You can't even buy a pencil sharpener at most department store counters for that!
So if you need a good, basic foundation and you're short of cash, check out Cover Girl Clean Makeup. Catch it on sale and it's an even better bargain. Your face will thank you.
